Newsround Comment

A woman from Essex discovered a handwritten note from 1982, written by a 10-year-old girl, while renovating her home. Read the article below to learn more about this exciting find and then discuss and answer the following

What would you want people 44 years from now to know about being a child today?

Zachary (Year 4)
To the finder, this letter was planted here on October 7th 2026 during the reign of King Charles the 3rd. I am 8 years old, I enjoy playing football and games like “it” and “infection”. I like watching interesting nature films like David Attenborough’s green planet, and reading horrible history, science and geography collections.  We use laptops and phones to play TTRS and Numbots. If we’re lucky we get picked to play “hit the button”. At home, occasionally I’m allowed to watch tv, but I mainly play games like chess, monopoly deal and other card games. I like to spend my pocket money on football cards and trade them at school. I wonder how things have changed when this letter is found.

Andreas (Year 4)

I would want people 44 years from now to know that being a child today we worry about how climate change is happening and destroys our planet. They should also know that if we keep on using petrol and diesel cars they will stop children's lungs from growing. If I would recommend a movie to my friends, it would be Mandalorian and Grogu and if it was a toy shop it would be Smyths super store.  The technology we use every day is computers and iPads. They help us to do our homework and communicate with friends and family. What I enjoy doing with my friends is playing sporty games and building Lego.
