KS2 Weekly Junior comments
Last week was Remembrance Week, a time when we reflect on the people - past and present - who have served in war.
If you could design your own Remembrance symbol, what would it look like and why?
Elsa (Year 6)
If I could design a sign it would be a candle. The base would represent the people who stayed strong during the war, keeping the candle up. The base also represents the bravery of those who fought in the war and reading war horse shows how hard it was during war. The flame represents a flicker of hope helping to keep soldiers strong.
Nephele (Year 4)
I would design my badge based on the original poppy but I would add the following words on three of its petals: "PEACE, SAFETY, RESPECT. On the green leaves I would have a war helmet picture to symbolise the fallen soldiers. I choose the poppy because those were the first plants to grow on the battlefields of France and Belgium after the end of the First World War. Since then the poppy became a symbol of life continuing after the sorrowful times of the war.
