KS2 Weekly Junior comments
Scientists say there are thousands more African forest elephants than previously thought - and they know this all thanks to the animals' poo!
Do you think using animal poo to study wildlife is clever, gross, or both? Why?
Ademola (Year 6)
I think it's smart because if you know exactly how many elephants there are you can determine if they are endangered. By using that information you could see if we need to protect where elephants roam or not which is really important for helping them not to be extinct.
Sebastian (Year 4)
I think studying elephant poo is clever (and gross), but it doesn’t really matter about the smell because you get to know how many elephants are there in the world and know if they’re close to extinction or not, if elephants are close to extinction they might save them and they can tell the world to stop killing elephants for their tusks.
