Should large animals be kept in zoos?
Clemmie – Y5
I think yes and no, because there are pros and cons to keeping large animals in zoos. It’s good that zoos exist because we can breed rare animals and help them survive but it also a bit cruel because we are forcing the animals to live in small enclosures rather than their natural habitats in the wild. Also, kids shout and can scare and disturb them. Even though they’re being treated well, they are on display to people even if they don’t want to be. A pro is that we can learn so much about their habitats and their natural environments, what they eat, why they are endangered. I’ve learned a lot going to London zoo and Whipsnade my whole life, but as much as we enjoy going sometimes it makes us feel sad seeing the animals living in cages.
