KS2 Homework Comment of the Week
Do you agree that Roald Dahl’s books should be changed and possibly offensive words removed? Or should the books be left as they are?
Juan Francisco – Y6
In my opinion, I think that people should not be re-writing the books as using the word “fat” to describe someone is simply a description and it’s part of his character that he’s greedy, fat and obnoxious, Roald Dahl describes him that way so readers know his personality. If he was enormous, it would just be saying his size, not that he is greedy. The fact that Roald Dahl describes his character like this mean it is obviously intended that he used those words. It makes the reader get a lot of informatiom about his greedy character and hate him, so they take the side of Charlie. I personally have read and enjoyed all of the books (except for Boy) and the way Roald Dahl describes his characters is very key to the personality of these characters.
