KS2 Homework Comment of the Week
Should we eat gene-edited food?
Congratulations to Henry in Year 5 and Rania in Year 4 for your comment of the week!
Yes, because it can help us to stay healthy by making veggies tastier and could help farmers produce more crops faster and effectively. However, no because I think it could be harmful and cruel to animals as we don’t know what the effects on them will be. We could also make certain breeds of animal extinct. We could be abusing animals just to get a bit more meat. (Henry, Y5)
Well in my opinion I think that we shouldn’t eat gene edited food because it can trigger severe allergies and even if there is more food available for the population, people will be eating unnatural and unhealthy food. Additionally, if we continue to grow our crops like this, there will be less variation within the species and they will become more weak and prone to diseases due to cell mutations. (Rania, Y4)

Notices
Next week is Eco Week and we have a number of activities taking place each day, learning about Biodiversity and Healthy Living.
On Friday 23rd June we are asking the children to wear green to school and to donate £1 which will we send to the Woodland Trust. We will also be having a whole school picnic in the afternoon and are asking each child to bring in a small healthy food donation to share with their class, i.e. fruit, vegetables, salad. We are asking that single use plastic is NOT used. Locally sourced and home-grown produce would be wonderful. Thank you for your continued support.
